His areas of specializations are Typography, Publication Design, Information design, Anatomy and Figure drawing and Design Pedagogy. Prof. G. V. Sreekumar was a an Art Director, Cartoonist, Calligrapher, Illustrator and Infographics designer before joining IIT Bombay as a professor. He studied Applied Art at M.S. University, Baroda, and Visual Communication at IDC, IIT Bombay. He is a visiting faculty member at several institutes including the Faculty of Fine Arts, M.S.University,Vadodara; National Institute of Design (NID), MIT Pune; IIIT Jabalpur and IIT Guwahati. In addition, he is a member of the Text Book Committee, NCERT, Government of India. Prof. Sreekumar has mentored many design students, including the prodigiously talented Prof. D. Udaya Kumar, PhD (IIT Guwahati) and Prof. Girish Dalvi (IDC School of Design, IIT Bombay), who he refers to as “mere do anmol rattan”. Prof. D. Udaya Kumar is the designer of the Indian rupee sign (₹) while Prof. Girish Dalvi has jointly designed the Ek Devanagari, Ek Latin, and Ek Mukta fonts. Prof. Sreekumar is considered an expert not only in the fields of Design and Design Education, but also in the new field he created at IDC, IIT bOmbay : “H-H-I”- Human Human Interaction and focuses on the human-centric aspects of design and everyday life.
